According to a credible leaker, a new Super Smash Bros. for the Switch 2 is in development. Supposedly, this project is intended to be a brand new entry within the Super Smash Bros. series, not just an enhanced port of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate from the Switch to the Switch 2.

The timeline for this seems to match up considering that development on Sakurai's latest project, Kirby Air Riders for the Switch 2, has come to its conclusion. As there are no plans for DLC or a sequel, the development team for that game has already been disbanded.
